Are There Foods Without Calories? Negative Calorie Foods, The Facts
By Dave Townley Platinum Quality Author

Is it possible to find foods with a negative calorie count? Of course we would all like to think this is possible, but realistically there is no such thing as a negative calorie food, all foods contain calories. By referring to negative calorie foods, what we are really meaning are foods which employ more energy in digesting than are burned up during ingestion.

Many foods have a very low calorie count. 'Negative calorie foods' added to our daily diet is a good idea, many are rich in minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and various other beneficial nutrients essential for our health, well being and fitness. It would be tempting to over indulge in these low calorie foods but we cannot follow a healthy weight loss programme this way, they cannot work magic. As our body is digesting foods and absorbing liquids, it is burning calories and using energy to fuel the functioning of our heart, circulation and all other bodily functions. Other advantages to negative calorie foods are that many have a high fibre content which is a useful component to our diet. Fibre aids digestion and helps food travel through our digestive tract quicker keeping our bowels functioning well.

Water of course, although not classified as a food contains no calories. As our body needs to burn calories in order to absorb and dispose of water, we are therefore burning off more than we have ingested. Water therefore can be termed 'negative calorie'.

Examples Of Negative Calorie Foods:-

Asparagus

Apples

Broccoli

Berry fruits

Cabbage

Celery

Cauliflower

Carrots

Cucumber

Figs

Green beans

Grapefruit

Grapes

Kiwi fruit

Lettuce

Leeks

Melon

Mushrooms

Nectarines

Oranges

Onions

Pineapple

Plums

Radishes

Rhubarb

Swede

Spinach

Tomatoes

Turnip

All these components can help add variety and taste to our diet, all adding to the sustainability and success of our weight loss programme. We must not forget that these additions, even though they are exceptionally low in calories still contain a certain quantity, so of course we cannot over indulge to excess. Our body needs nutrients from a variety of food groups, so by utilising the low calorie options in conjunction with a well balanced nutritious diet, we are progressing the safe and healthy way.

Versatile, delicious and good for us, these additions to our diet can be enjoyed as they are, or as accompaniments to other foods to create tasty meals. We can snack between meals, sensibly of course on these 'negative calorie foods' without compromising our diet and improving our well being and hopefully resulting in the shedding those pounds in the process.

Negative Calorie Foods & Weight Loss
By P. Mehta

You gain weight when your calorie intake is more than your calorie expenditure. But if this calorie equation is reversed, then it results in "negative calorie" balance in your body. In this negative calorie case, you expand more calories than you take in, resulting in a decrease in the stored calories in the form of body fat, and you experience a weight loss. About 10% of daily caloric intake is used to process foods in the body. You can expand more by doing physical activities.
There are certain foods that show negative calorie effect because the body has to expand more energy to extract calories from these foods. The negative calorie foods need more calories to break down the foods and digest than the calories the foods actually contain. The extra calories are taken up from the stored fat in the body. Thus the negative calorie foods (may also be called as minus calorie foods or fat burning foods) are ideal for reducing the body fat and for losing weight.
Let us take an example. A piece of dessert consisting of 300 calories may require only 150 calories to be digested by our body, resulting in a net gain of 150 calories which is added to our body fat! So if you eat 100 calories of a food that requires 150 calories to digest, then you have burnt an additional 50 calories simply by eating that food. These 50 calories are used up from the stored fat in your body!
These foods are widely available in nature. Some of the foods from the list of negative calorie foods (about 100 in number) are: asparagus, broccoli, beets, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, carrot, garlic, papaya, spinach, turnip, zucchini, apples, oranges, lettuce, grapefruit, pineapples, strawberries, and raspberries.
It is a great idea to eat these negative calorie food items to your full satisfaction without counting calories. Include these foods in your daily diet and plan your diet according to food pyramid. You will be amazed to see the fast weight loss results. You can follow negative calorie diet plan for safe and permanent weight loss.

Negative Calorie Diet Plan
By Katie A. Jones and Joel Chue

The negative calorie diet plan works a little differently from most other conventional diet yet it is one of the most effective diets currently available in the market. The diet is based on the simple idea that eating foods that cost the body more calories to burn it than the amount of calories it provides to the body will inevitably cause weight loss.

What to do and what not to do

1. Eat foods that are very low in calories but difficult to digest while on the negative calorie diet plan.

These include fresh fruits and vegetables most notably asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, green beans, lettuce, radishes and zucchini among vegetables and apples, pineapples, blueberries, lemons, cantaloupe, grapefruits, oranges, strawberries, watermelons and tomatoes among fruits.

2. The negative calorie diet plan asks you to eat your foods raw.

Minimize your intake of cooked foods that use oil as a media. Have as many kinds of salads as you can but go easy on the dressing for reducing weight. Try to eat the fruits whole and not as juices because the body burns up more calories while digesting solid food. And obviously stay away from every kind of junk food and those tempting munchies you love to snack upon.

3. This however does not mean that you cannot eat anything other than fruits and vegetables while on the negative calorie diet plan.

You need to include lean meats and whole grains in your diet to keep balance, but eat these in moderation. Restrict your intake of anything other than vegetables and fruits so as to reduce weight. And this is not very difficult to do because vegetables being high on fiber will stop you from feeling hungry.

You should also consider exercising while on the negative calorie diet plan. Try things that you enjoy like walking, swimming or cycling and enjoy weight reduction regime. Once off the diet you should continue with a healthy diet that balances protein, carbs and fiber. And stay away from junk food. Do this and you are all set for a fat free healthy life.

A Negative Calorie Food List
By Terje Ellingsen Platinum Quality Author

To make a negative calorie food list, we must be precisely clear on what we mean. There has been some confusion about this phrase. Some have thought that this kind of food contains no calories at all. This can't be right as long as all kinds of food contains at least some energy.

We're going to present you with a list of this kind of food. If you follow it, not necessarly without any other kinds of food, it will increase metabolism naturally, and the result will be weight loss - especially compared with eating a meal where these foods are not included.

Now, it's time for a definition. When we say nagative calorie food, we mean foods which contain so little energy that the body actually uses more energy to digest and absorb the nutrients. So if you subtract calories you'll burn from the calories you eat, the result will be negative. Only by digesting the food you have eaten, there will be a net loss of energy or a negative energy balance. This is what must happen if you want to lose weight but with this food you don't have to do anything but eat it to accomplish that.

You can also eat protein in combination with such food. Good protein will help you control your appetite as well as increase your metabolism because the total amount of calories are not reduced too much.

Here is the list:

Vegetables

Fennel, aubergine, gourd, broccoli, leek, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, marrow, cauliflower, peppers, celery, radish, chicory, spinach, cress, tomato, cucumber, turnip.

Fruits

Apricot, mandarin orange, blackberry, melon canteloupe, blackcurrant, peaches, clementines, plums, damsons, raspberry, grapefruit. rhubarb, guava, strawberry, honeydew melon, tangerine, lemon, watermelon.

Terje Brooks Ellingsen is a writer and internet publisher of weight loss and fitness articles, such as how negative calorie food diets can give fast weight loss and related issues.

Is the Pineapple Diet Negative Calorie Based?
By Monty Dayton Platinum Quality Author

There are many questions that surround the pineapple fad diet, ranging from whether it is a part time or full time diet to whether or not it is based around the idea of negative calorie foods. As with any diet that has this many questions floating around it, there is some good information to be found online, but there are also many misconceptions floating around, as well.

While pineapple is listed as a negative calorie food, the pineapple diet is independent from any type of negative calorie food eating plan. This weight loss plan was developed by Joann Metzger, and was meant only as a short term solution to busting through a weight loss plateau or for losing some weight fast before returning to a moderate diet and exercise plan for maintenance purposes. The pineapple supposedly has an enzyme that aids in fat burning. This is disputed, but pineapple is a healthy fruit whose natural sugars and semi tart taste help check appetite and sugar cravings.

Add that in with water, and many forms of this diet add in tuna, and this leads to a diet that is designed to put the most factors in favor of the dieter as possible. That being said, the pineapple diet does not subscribe to the idea of negative calories, although it does tell you how good a diet food pineapple is when so many weight loss plans want to claim it as one of the ideal foods.

The pineapple diet is indeed a short term fad diet, but it is one that has also claimed its fair share of success.

If you would like to know more about the pineapple diet then please read that article or check out this online pineapple diet review.
